Education:
Capt. Ripperger graduated from State University
of New York Maritime College in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science
in Marine Transportation. Over the course of his career,
Capt. Ripperger completed several industry-training programs,
and educational courses including Ocean Shipping and Inland
Transportation, Shipping Venture Analysis, Marine Insurance,
and Maritime Law. Most recently (2000), he completed an Executive
Program at Darden Business School on Extraordinary Performance.
Prior to joining Maritime Overseas Corp. in 1977, he taught
for eighteen months at USMMA (King's Point) as an Assistant
Professor of Nautical Science.
Experience:
Capt. Ripperger sailed as a deck officer
in Mobil Oil Corporation's tanker fleet in various capacities
from 3rd Mate to Chief Mate (1969-1975), and he also worked
ashore as a dispatcher for the fleet for one year during
this period.
In
1977 Capt. Ripperger joined Maritime Overseas Corporation
as an Assistant Port Captain and worked in various fleet
management areas of increasing responsibility
until 1995 when he was appointed Vice President and head
of OSG's U.S. Flag Operations. Captain Ripperger holds an
unlimited Masters License and sailed Master with MOC in
1986. In 1999
he moved west and joined the ATC team as VP/COO where he
is responsible for the day-to-day business and vessel operations.
