We
are Alaska Tanker Company
Words
are cheap unless backed by actions that are consistent with the
words, and outstanding results that demonstrate
the efficacy of those actions. With this in mind, Alaska Tanker Company
has built a performance culture that highlights responsibility,
accountability
at all levels, and sustainability that is based on the pursuit of
excellence. In particular, ATC has chosen to make the pursuit of
excellence in safety and environmental performance the bedrock upon
which its business success depends.
We
were the first US ship operating company to achieve American Bureau
of Shipping’s ISO 14001 and SQE certification, and
the second company to be awarded Washington State’s voluntary ECOPRO
certification. These certifications provide external evidence of
our world-class operation, application of technology, employee training
and preventive maintenance systems. Browse through our site, and

ATC
Reaches Another Safety Milestone!
Through
June of 2011, ATC ships have safely and efficiently carried
over 1,340 million barrels of crude oil.
While
safety statistics are one way to measure performance, they
cannot possibly convey what makes ATC different from other shipping
companies. As one ATC Captain has said;
“…our
main achievement is not the statistic but what we have collectively
achieved in our hearts and our minds”
The
employees of ATC are committed to mitigating the risks we face
every day, one day at a time, one job at a time. Our goal is an
entire generation of seafarers spending their entire working lives
without an injury, whilst earning a decent living for their families
and loved ones.

Recognitions Received by ATC
In 2004, the United States Coast Guard recognized ATC’s outstanding
performance by awarding the company the Benkert “Osprey” Gold Award.
This award was given in recognition of “…outstanding achievement
in marine environmental protection that goes beyond mere compliance
with industrial and regulatory standards”. The “Osprey” is the highest
environmental award given by the Coast Guard.
Following
this recognition, In March of 2006, the Alaska State Legislature
honored ATC by presenting Anil Mathur, President and CEO with a legislative
citation. This citation recognized ATC’s efforts to achieve the highest
levels of safety and environmental performance while carrying Alaska
North Slope crude oil from Valdez, Alaska to refineries in Washington
and California. ATC was noted as having a record that
is unsurpassed
in the industry.
In February 2010, the Alaska State Legislature recognized and commended ATC for being the first United States flagged shipping firm to achieve 13 million man-hours without a lost-time accident. They additionally recognized ATC for voluntarily running the ships' engines on ultra-low sulfur fuel in Alaska ports to reduce emissions.
Lastly, the employees of ATC are committed to maintaining a single
focus on operational excellence and their efforts have been recognized
by various stakeholders including BP, the unions that work with ATC,
the Prince William Sound Citizens Advisory Council and by the state
environmental regulatory agencies where ATC does business.
